Four cars at a time, since 1998

Restoration you can stop at any month

Billed by the hour against a monthly photographic record, so you know what has been spent and what it bought before deciding whether to carry on.

Details, rather than finished cars

A finished car photographs like anybody else’s. What separates one shop from another is what is underneath, so that is what is here.

Two mechanics, four cars, no third bay

We could take six and the sixth would sit for a year. Four is what two people can move forward every week, and a car that is not moving forward is a car whose owner is paying storage they did not ask for. When the fourth bay is full there is a waiting list rather than a fifth car parked outside.

Taking a car on

Four answers. The first one turns away more cars than it accepts and is the reason people come back with the next one.

Is my car worth restoring?

Often not, and we will say so after an hour underneath it rather than after four months of invoices. What decides it is structure, not condition — a rough car with sound structure is a project and a tidy one without is an ornament.

How is it billed?

By the hour, itemised monthly, with parts at cost and the supplier invoice attached. We do not quote a project price, because a project price is a bet one of us has to win.

How long does it take?

Between one and four years, and the honest answer is that it depends on how quickly you want to spend. Cars here move at the rate their owners fund them and nobody is charged storage for a pause.

Can I visit?

Any Saturday morning, and most owners do. The monthly record exists for the months you cannot, not instead of coming.
